RE: C the result for that

C the result for that work unit came back as invalid. For whatever reason, your results did not match those of the other two work units. This has happened to me on rare occasion as well. Sooner or later it happens to everyone. It is one of the characteristics of BOINC. You will not get credit for a work unit that is not in consensus with others.

...

Thanks, Shaktai. I wasn't complaining, so I hope I didn't come across as if I was. I just thought I'd mention it because Bruce asked us to report problems. Since he and Bernd see many more of these results than we do, they are in a much better position to do some trend analysis. I should have put my computer's specs in that post as well so they didn't have to look them up, but I didn't think of it at the time. I think this was only the second WU I have had end up invalid from my iBook. The first was with the 0.08 client, and this was of course with the 0.11.

I just checked and found a second WU that received zero credit. This one was also using 0.11 client, but the result says it had one hang in the middle (the error 15 is when I had to quit menubar to get E@H running properly again). Both these occured on iBook G4 1.33 GHz, 768 MB RAM, running BOINC 4.44 SuperBench from Team MacNN, with E@H client 0.11 - hopefully, there won't be additional invalid WU.

Most interestingly all Wu get stuck at exactly 49.5% completion!

I hear you. I'm watching my Mac results closely as well. Just found one that reported last night and came back as invalid. http://einsteinathome.org/workunit/1724067
That's the first one in a while.

iMac G5, running the advanced GUI with the Team MacNN optimized BOINC client.

Just had another invalid

Just had another invalid result again with no error codes showing. Two of my three invalid results have the same two other hosts that are comparing to me...but I checked further and I found that I have other results also compared to these same two hosts that are valid, so it would appear at first glance that I'm not being compared to a couple of "broken" machines... Still somewhat disturbing that I have had these invalid results so suddenly after a long string of all valid results in spite of the hangs, two WU playing at the same time, etc. My Power Book continues to crank out valid results, although it's a bit slower than the iBook.

Kind of curious. Are all of those w1_1019.0__1019.4_0.1_T04_S4hA work units? I noticed that your last one and mine were both the same type of work unit. (exactly the same number, not just close)

Don't tell me you two guys are screwing with each others WU's (;>)

Good news. David Anderson

Good news. David Anderson has just checked in fixes to the BOINC API library that should (once and for all) get rid of these problems. Bernd is on a transatlantic airplane right now; so it may take us a few days to get a new test app build ready.

Here's the info on the invalid WU form the iBook:

Work Unit Name / E@H Client version / WU#
w1_1019.0__1019.3_0.1_T00_S4hA .08 1681630
w1_1019.0__1019.0_0.1_T01_S4hA .08 1682700

w1_1019.0__1019.4_0.1_T03_S4hA .11 1736483
w1_1019.0__1019.1_0.1_T04_S4hA .11 1742468
w1_1019.0__1019.4_0.1_T04_S4hA .11 1750405

However, interspersed with the last three invalid WU, were these three valid ones:

w1_1019.0__1019.3_0.1_T04_S4hA .11 1747606
w1_1019.0__1019.2_0.1_T04_S4hA .11 1745085
w1_1019.0__1019.0_0.1_T04_S4hA .11 1739509

Some of the other host computers were the same on a valid and on an invalid...so my conspiracy theory is shot down .

Where can we get the new BOINC with the fixes?

Just discovered when I got to

Just discovered when I got to work this mornng that my PowerBook had another hang during the night. PowerBook G4 1.0 GHz, 1 GB RAM, running BOINC 4.44 SuperBench from Team MacNN and E@H Beta .11, running as CLI, along with SETI and CPDN, ratio of 100, .001, 10 respectively, and "connec to" set to a half-second. The Activity Monitor graphic showed around 80% for system, 10% for user, and only 10% for nice. Here's the terminal log.

The normal run time on this computer is around 10.5 hours per E@H. As you can see, it ran for 4 hours, let CPDN run for one hour, then E@H came back for another 9 hours and 40 minutes, when I hit Control-C (signal 2) and shut it off. When I restarted it, E@H ran for 5 seconds, requested more work, ran for another 7 seconds, then said that computation had ended. It then went on to start another WU. Based on my normal run times, the WU would have actually completed around 0400 (EDT -04). I wonder if when the WU ends, either the E@H client gets "lost", or the BOINC client loses track of E@H and thinks it's still running. (only guessing here)

New subject:
Bruce: thanks for the good news about the BOINC Library!
