It very likely that you have a "Firewall" problem. That is, although BOINC has attempted to contact the Einstein server (or Seti server), it appears that the server hasn't "heard" from it yet. Your firewall is likely blocking that communication. Check to see if your firewall is configured to allow boinc.exe to communicate. If you don't know how to do thiat, at least tell us what fiewall you are using (e.g Norton Internet Security, McAfee, Windows Firewall, etc.)

No, probably nothing is "buggy". There have apparently been communication problems over at Seti over the last couple of days and it's probably related to that. You really should ask about Seti problems over there as the people here wont necessarily know about the current status of Seti.

You have an account here but no computers registered. You could try registering a computer and setting up crunching here. That would soon verify if your installation of BOINC was OK.

Edit: Sorry, overlapping post with Stick.

Cheers,
Gary.

JP, If you click on your

JP,

If you click on your name (the blue "JP" at the left of your last message), then on "View" Computers in the next window, you'll see that you don't have a computer listed yet. If you do the same thing on my name, you'll see the type of info that should be listed. For some reason, your attempts at "attaching" have failed. If you are copying and pasting from your e-mail (the best way to do it), make sure you what you have pasted doesn't have any extra spaces or other characters in it.

Stick, amigo

Sound like good analysis and good sound advice. Gary will be absent from the boards for a week or so (you probably already noticed that), so it's a good thing that you are growing in experience and willing to put it to good use helping with problems.

JP, I am beginning to

JP,

I am beginning to think we need somebody else to jump in here. If your firewall isn't blocking BOINC and you are sure your are cutting and pasting your account key correctly, then I am stumped. Since, we can't "view" your computer yet, you should tell us a little about your system in your next post (i.e. Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.). I don't think there's much difference in the attaching process, but, it might help in the next step.

One more thing, if you happen to be using Windows XP and also have a third party firewall like Norton Internet Security or McAfee, check to make sure that the Windows Firewall is really off. I use NIS and I vaguely remember having a problem a while back when I temporarily turned NIS off (trying to figure out what was causing a problem like this one). I think the Windows Firewall somehow "turned itself on" when I disabled NIS. Since the Windows FW works silently (no alert messages), I didn't realize it. Anyway, I wound up going on a very long "wild goose chase", before I finally figured out what had happened.
