A new MacOS PPC App is available from our Beta Test page.
This is a new App for MacOS PPC that uses the same "App switching" mechanism we have in the 4.38 Linux App, here to distinguish between AltiVec- and G3 machines. The AltiVec App is identical to the 4.29 (speedup might be under discussion, but it shouldn't be a slowdown). The G3 App should be slightly faster than the 4.03 and "G3 clean", i.e. shouldn't throw "signal 4" (illegal instruction) exceptions.
The app_info.xml should allow for "smooth" transition from App versions 4.03 and 4.29, i.e. work already assigned to these versions should be finished with it (checkpoint of 4.29 and 4.41 are compatible, but the link structure in the slots directory is not).
Plese test and report!

MacOS PPC S5R3 App 4.41 available for Beta test
)
The app works on my iMac G3, no problems/errors so far. Short test of the graphics works well too. - OS X 10.3.9 / Boinc 5.10.45
Installed it on my iBook G4,
)
Installed it on my iBook G4, first result is done and validated.
Only problem: when upgrading from 4.29 I lost 17 hours of work on the running WU, it started from zero again but then finished nicely.
Since the speed seems to be the same I'll stay with 4.29 on my older G4, which by the way increased it's RAC after a while. So in the end 4.29 really seems to be 20% faster. Same happend on the iBook, first the WUs took the same time or even longer but then the RAC climbed permanently.
not sure if this is where to
)
not sure if this is where to mention it, but I got the PPC app to run on my G5 which used to run the optimzed app find ... well, not this time ...
Not sure if it was Leopard, the fact that there was some thing about having to re-install BOINC because of permission problems or what ...
But, though you might like to know ...
Perhaps I missed something somewhere, somehow ...
work was clear when I dropped the new app in place ... (got the install boinc because... error; installed BOINC again, started, got anon platform message ... then all work errored out) ...
Not like I was before so ... if at first you don't succeeed ... quit ....
Hi! I moved your post from

Hi!
I moved your post from the MacOS/Intel thread to this thread.
The debug output of your failed WUs contain this line :
So I suspect that the app_info.xml file wasn't overwritten with the new one as it should be.
Could this be the problem? Just unpack the archive again , set the rights correctly , and then it should work.
Please let us know if this helped.
Happy crunching

Possibly, though it looked like it had been, especially in that I did not get an error on failure.
I suspect the rights are the problem. For on thing I have no idea what they SHOULD be, and I did not see any note as to how they SHOULD be set.
And I saw a note somewhere that the latest BOINC is using a new super duper rights model and that is what BOINC complained about when it insisted it be re-installed ...
Worse, the BOINC owner types are not avialble for me to assign even though I am administrator and only user of the PC ...
So, what SHOULD the rights be? And, why cannot I assign BOINC whatever to the files ... The files claim me as owner ...
And I knew right after I posted I blew the forum ... thanks for unscrewing the pooch ...
Hi! There's a description

Hi!
There's a description of how to fix the rights here http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/app_test.php#ppcmac.
As BOINC tries to start a different version than the one you wanted to install, there really must be something wrong with the content of the app_info.xml, not just the rights, tho. I guess trying to re-install the app from the tar achive is a good idea.

Well, I did a re-download and will/am draining my queue of the last couple WU (30 hours?) and will try from there ... I will also try the one for the Power PC, though the std app seems quite fast here incomparison (of course, more work to drain ...
One WU completed and

One WU completed and validated on a 400 MHz G3 iMac. No problems so far.
I installed v4.41 on my G5
)
I installed v4.41 on my G5 running Tiger (without deleting anything from the folder, just overwriting the app_info.xml—I had been running v4.29), and on restarting I see
Fri 28 Mar 00:16:39 2008|Einstein@Home|Found app_info.xml; using anonymous platform Fri 28 Mar 00:16:39 2008|Einstein@Home|State file error: missing application file einstein_S5R3_4.03_powerpc-apple-darwin Fri 28 Mar 00:16:39 2008|Einstein@Home|State file error: missing application file einstein_S5R3_4.29_powerpc-apple-darwin
in the log. The v4.29 executables have indeed been audo-deleted as usual; I just don’t recall getting the above message when installing previous beta or PU apps here. BOINC doesn’t figure it owes E@h any work at the moment—I thought it an opportune time to switch apps—so I can’t yet tell whether anything’s actually broken or not. Will report on any further developments.
I am seeing the same error
)
I am seeing the same error message as Odysseus. In my case the 4.03 app is actually missing but the 4.29 app is sitting right alongside the 4.41 so I don't know why Boinc isn't seeing it.
Nevertheless, 4.41 is crunching OK. Not as fast as perhaps it could with a little more tweaking, but OK.
