I know I was sweating away in the heat.  The A/C went out late last week and had to be replaced with a new one.  OUCH$!!  No more R22 refrigerant.  Will be totally outlawed by the early part of next year.  There is now a more environmental friendly refrigerant but not inter changeable with old A/C units.  Do I get a kiss?

You should have kissed the a/c guy before he handed you the bill as maybe he would have charged you less, that isn't cheap!!! I have 1 heat pump for the house and 2 mini-split systems that only do a/c for my computer room, the mini splits run 24/7 365 and I'm dreading their replacements, they are only 2 1/2 years old so should be okay for awhile yet.

Can't really complain.  The old unit lasted 14 years and I live about 1.5 miles from the beach.

That's very good I'm about the same distance from the ocean too so am hopeful. Mine are between the houses and there's a decent wind going thru most of the time, I hose them off about once a week when the sand is blowing and once a month when it's not. I also have the a/c guys come twice a year to service them so hopefully mine will last that long too.

The condos on the ocean/dune line replace their units almost yearly so no need to buy the best.

Hosing the units off is a good idea, especially when living close to the ocean.   Hope you get the longevity out of your units you want.

Thanks me too!!

I am winning now as the front went thru last night and the temps are down in the upper 60's this morning!! No more waking up with it in the 80's to start the morning off, until next week anyway.

Yes! In low 70's here this morning.  Perfect day to mow the lawn if the ground wasn't so soggy. Quite a conundrum - do I take advantage the weather, compact the sod, and get my shoes wet, or wait, save the sod, and deal with too-long grass to mow in hotter temps?  A real First World problem that one is.

My lawn guys waited until the afternoon to mow and edge so the grass was dry and so was the first couple inches of the ground. My HOA provides the lawn guys all I do is keep it green by turning on the sprinkler system 3 times per week. They do everything but none of it very well, so starting this Fall I may stop them from trimming my bushes so I can make them do what I want them to do, shade the heatpumps so they run cooler. Right now the bushes look like little round balls instead of taller Sun shields like they could be, the lawn folks do everything the same but not all bushes are the same or were planted for the same purpose. It's not like I have a hundred of them or anything and I do have a battery powered  hedgetrimmer so it won't be hard. I think I can do all of them if I spend less than an hour after I go to the gym a couple of mornings. I have a front door and a back door and if I do half one day and half the next day it should be easy to do and then cleanup too.

I am back to winning!!!

Here in the NW global cooling has made all of July mainly low 70's and rain half of the time.

We  did get over 80 twice but that is probably it for this month so maybe August will.......ok it probably won't Cool

In our yard the cicadas are churring, on the bayou the frogs are calling, and on TLPTPW the crickets are all that we hear.  O, the lazy hazy days of summer! Or winter, if you're down under.

I see the occasional grasshopper here in the Mid-West, but not swarms thank goodness! I've seen a fair number of cicadas flying about near one of my Maple trees, but they haven't been very noisy so far.

Are those huge grasshoppers

Are those huge grasshoppers the ones with yellow stripes?  I've seen a few of those around.  First time I saw one a few years back, it freaked me out.  I can imagine how a swarm of those things would be fearsome.  I hear the occasional typical cicada call during the day, but then in the early evening there is something cicada-like in the trees outside our front door that are positively deafening.  Serious, it hurts my ears.  The cat won't even go out when those things are calling. But then, it doesn't take much for that cat to say, "Ooo. Scary!", and slink away.

I didn't see any stripes at all but he flew away pretty quickly once the water from the hose hit him, he was a good 4 inches long though. All the local dogs and cats at my old house would eat cicadas until their stomachs blew up like a balloon and almost drags on the ground as they walk!! Maybe if you caught one and fed it to your cat it would see them as food and eliminate a few for you, of course it could also resort to making you catch them too.
