Clearly some sort of karma has run over your dogma on this trip. :-)

Cheers, Mike.

That would probably be me.  The wife wants to make a trip down there, but since I just retired, I need to get my finances in shape so we know everything going out (we know what's coming in from Social Security).

WINNING!!!

In the same boat here; been retired for over three months and, what with this that and the other thing, am still waiting to see what our financial situation will settle into. It's a bit frustrating because I'm itching to build a PC for E@H. I bought the case, but am holding off on the rest.

While reading Mikey's travel travails and Australian aspirations I pondered whether I'd rather sit 12hr in "Comfort Class" or sit 12hr on the couch with a cat on my lap and arm as I attempt to type on this keyboard. Both are difficult situations and I just can't decide. All that I'm sure of is that neither option would be my first choice.

Argh! can't...reach...mouse...without...disturbing...cat...

Ideas are not fixed, nor should they be; we live in model-dependent reality.

BTW AnnieT please check your PM's

Thanks, Mikey. I have :)

Yes, and Beelzebub Telecommunications have assured
me it will be fixed tomorrow sometime. We'll see. They
said that on the 7th. The day they booked an engineer
to come the day before. Y-e-e-e-s.... On the 6th,
people, that's right. They seemed most put out when I
asked exactly how they'd achieve that, so the 12th it is

Please wait here. Further instructions could pile up at any time. Thank you.

I hope Mikey is having a fabulous trip. One day I'd like to visit Australia too but I don't anticipate traveling far anytime soon.

You were going to disrupt a slumbering cat?! My avatar has something to say about that: How dare you!

I will have to be the winner if that is the new title for the thread.

The only way I ever get Down Under Where women glow and men plunder?
Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder?
You better run, you better take cover......is if Dr. Mike makes and escalator from Sydney to the Olympic Peninsula.......or Mikey lands in my lawn and picks me up in a chopper that can't crash and to Air Force One for that long flight

BUT if I lived way over on the east side like Mikey I would have had to taken a flight on the ISS .......not sure what rocket I would have to take to get up there since I wouldn't trust the ones we see these days.

What a trip Mikey.........I think I would have to stay a month or two down under after THAT flight to Where beer does flow and men chunder ...Can't you hear, can't you hear the thunder? You better run, you better take cover, (1981)

On the plane from Hawaii to New Zealand a NZ guy was sitting near me and drank 3 free 12 ounce beers in about 10 minutes, that's as fast as the stewardess could get to him, and he just chugged them. He drank 2 more for lunch and 2 more for dinner and you couldn't tell he'd even had one beer!! Now he was a big guy at a bit over 6 feet and very muscular, but to me that was a lot of cheap beer. I haven't finished a beer since my surgery 3 years ago, it takes too long and they don't taste as good anymore. I tried one of the ones he was having, Mauri brand, and it was a pale ale that was okay.

As for getting to NZ or Australia without flying support the Democrats 'New Green Deal' and they will eliminate airline travel and build tunnels to go everywhere. Now if they have an earthquake and you are in one of your travel buggies don't worry, no one can hear you scream from that far down anyway!!

AnnieT I'll bet BT had the same idea you were having a problem that my friend at home had, his cable was going in and out and when he called they said 'oh yeah we wondered when you were going to call about it' and they came out the same day and replaced a card outside the house, they could have done it without even telling him and had some great PR, but nooooo they waited for him to tell them he too saw a problem....IDIOTS!!!

I've considered traveling

I've considered traveling overseas by freighter. It's not cheaper and it certainly takes longer than flying but makes, for me at least,  the traveling to get there part of the appeal of traveling at all.

Not for the win, but for extra points, a question : name the quintessentially Aussie foodstuff that people typically either love or hate ? :-)

Cheers, Mike.

I have made this letter longer than usual because I lack the time to make it shorter ...

Well done ! Fifty ( 50 )

Well done ! Fifty ( 50 ) points for you ..... :-)

Now for one hundred ( 100 ) points : how many Prime Ministers have Aussies had this millennium ?

For one hundred and fifty ( 150 ) points : the literal meaning of the name of our plain with the longest stretch of straight train track in the world ?

For two hundred (200 ) points : what is a 'bottom of the harbour' scheme ? Bonus fifty ( 50 ) if you can name which harbour the phrase originally referred to .... ;-)

Cheers, Mike.
