i have this problem for weeks now and i have asked in maybe hundreds (ok, almost :)) of boards for it, but i seem to be the only one who has it... Installation of boinc ver. 4.20 or higher crashes with the error: "Object required" just at the beginning. normaly i dont have any problems with my pc or this windows. Because nobody could help me for weeks i made a video to show how it looks :P i'm afraid that in some weeks you need ver. 4.2x to keep on crunching as you already need 4.19 for einstein@home today...

video: http://darksea.home.t-link.de/boincerror.zip (170 KB)

thanks a lot...

Installation Error boinc 4.20 and higher

Can you check your event log (system / security / application) to see if there are any messages?

Since it is using the Windows Installer when it craps out, can you check your current version of windows installer? Get the latest one if you dont have it. (or check for known issues with your version)

Silly question (but have to ask) are you running the install under an administrator user?

Try disabling firewall / antivirus /security software when running the install (disconnect from the net first). If you are running particularly tight security apps then something may be blocking the installer from running properly. ie it's not allowing it to write a temp file or something... or perhaps considers one of the installer procedures / scripts to be 'virus like' and so disallows its execution..

Check antivirus / security logs for any related messages....

cheers,
Paul.

Message 5177 in response to message 5176

hm, eventlog only tells me that msi installer has been started... i updated the installer to the newest version, but that didnt help.. i deactivated all security software but that also doesnt help.... and somehow the installation works on my little PIII 800 Mhz, it has the same windows version, almost the same security software etc...

and yes, i'm running the installation as admin user... i really dont have a clue what else to do...

but thanks a lot
