Not quite sure what you mean by "in the same manner"

I was thinking more in terms of CPU loading:

  • cores & task mix - GR, GW tasks, free CPU for the GPU any CPU throttling

There is always more work to do. This is new stuff to me and I don't have any experience with more then a dual core CPU. But its sort of like golf. I am playing against myself and in this case I set out to reduce my power consuption per 10k stones. In order to gain an idea about this I simply asked on one of the threads how many watts to get 10k stones was reasonable. I got several answers. The first answer was a simple number "300". The next answer was 100, and the next was 42. So my goal was to manage 35-45w. I now know that low 30 watts per 10k is, apparently, routine. However, I have managed to produce 57k stones on a tad less then 215 Watts for about 37w per 10k stones. So I made par.

My next build was already comissioned before I learned of the ease with which one can do sub 35w per 10k stones. I think it will break 35, but not by much.

I will try to do that, but it might not be right away since I have never even accessed that thread. However, my Win7-64 machine produces six BRP tasks in a tad less then 75 minutes, at a tad less then 215 Watts. It is described in detail below. I designed it to run four cordless Asus GTX 650 cards but does best with three. My remarks concerning the GTX 660 simply reflect my experience with it on my various dual core machines. It scales prduction up and down along with its power draw, and worked reliably as the number four card in the referenced machine. But its production/power draw on these little machines excludes me from using in my efficency project so far.

Question. Has anyone using a GTX 660 broken 35 watts per 10k stones?

Actually I was asking Gary

Actually I was asking Gary Roberts to report his average completion times (along with OS) in the "CUDA and openCL Benchmarks" thread so that dskagcommunity could update his chart. But it's a great thing for everyone to do so we can get the most accurate picture of GPU speed and efficiency.

FINAL REPORT ON FOUR GPU

FINAL REPORT ON FOUR GPU MACHINE

- Seasonic 350 Gold Power Supply
- GPU = 3xGTX650+1 GTX660
- Power Draw = 265 Watts at the plug
- RAC = 66,714 after several months is stable plus - minus small amounts.
- Production rate per day = 10,000 stones at 39.72 watts.

This is the best I have achieved after stable RAC. The GTX 660 is the relative power hog, and if I only ran three GTX 650s MIGHT get 10k stones on 35 Watts. But no way to get my machines below 30 Watts. Just for the hell of it I might replace the GTX 660 with a GTX 650 and run four of them. My early tests show my two PCI 3.0 busses CAN power four GTX 650s, but with an unacceptable error rate. After many months of break-in time they might be better, worse, or the same as the first time I tried it. So what the heck. I think I will go for it and see what happens. Will report soon.

Incidentally, my Seasonic Platinum fanless 400 Watt machine with two GTX 650s draws about 130 watts, but only turn in a RAC of 31,974. That's 40.65 watts to produce 10k stones per day.

BIG CORRECTION I just

BIG CORRECTION

I just opened up my four slot machine and only found three GPUs. OOPS. Two GTX 650s and one GTX 660. My bad. I'll need to rethink this. ADDENDUM to follow in due time......

ITS NOW A LEGITIMATE FOUR

ITS NOW A LEGITIMATE FOUR CARD MACHINE

3 x GTX 650 plus 1 GTX 660. Power draw is up from 265 to about 300. So let 'er rip, says I. Four sheets to the wind! Three hundred fifty watt PSU says you? Let 'er cook says I. After this experiment and the RAC stabilizes, I will swap my under utilized 400 watt fanless platinum for this over utilized 350 Gold. It will be a good experiment.

I hope .....

Congratulations with your four GPU system build. 300w power draw for a four GPU configuration is excellent.
