      I have quite a few hosts running Linux and using various AMD GPUs so I will try to give you some information about what might be happening.

      Unfortunately, this doesn't give you much useful information when crunching fails to start.  There won't be any results (output files) to report back so the 'absent' message is rather to be expected :-).

      BOINC detects the OpenCL capabilities of your GPU, so that looks OK.  The best place to see what the problem is all about is to look at the stderr text that is returned for a particular task.  If you go to the tasks list for your computer and click on the task ID link for any of the failed tasks, you can see information returned, including this bit

      There is a <message> tag giving an error code and the final part of <stderr_txt> shows the last thing that happened before the task failed.  I have no knowledge about precisely what those things mean but it should mean something to the Devs.  I suspect there is something missing/incompatible with the driver you are using.

      I have this machine with an AMD Bonaire series GPU.  My card is actually an R7 260X and it uses the fglrx driver.  It's quite a nice card for crunching.  What is your particular model?

      When the previous fglrx driver for AMD GPUs under Linux was about to be deprecated, I decided to stop further updates at that point rather than try to seek alternatives.  I suspected that it might be quite a while before there was a decent replacement for fglrx that would work properly on previous versions of hardware.  AMD have a reputation for being slow to sort out issues with completely new proprietary drivers for Linux.  So all my hosts with older GPUs still run the last version of fglrx.

      Hopefully one of the Devs will be able to give you a clue about your particular problem.

        as you are not using fglrx I doubt you will be able to succeed.

        First your mesa/llvm/kernel stack is a little outdated. Maybe try newer versions like mesa 17.1.5 with llvm 4.x and kernel 4.12.x.

        Second even in the newest mesa stack, OpenCL support is still work in progress (https://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/GalliumCompute/) so I don't know if it will work.

          Actually, there is one project, XANSONS for COD, that supports Mesa, at least on AMD cards. That is Mesa 13.0.6 and kernel 4.9.x. You may check this thread http://xansons4cod.com/xansons4cod/forum_thread.php?id=65 . So, as you may see, it's not an OpenCL problem.
