How do I stop boinc! (einstein@home) from automatically connecting to the internet to download its modules.
i am on a dialup connection and find that my PC is nearly always connected to the net. this problem has only started since running einstein@home and I am now dreading to see my next phone bill due to these extra connections.
I would like to remain a participant in this project, but i need to be able to choose when to download work modules.
Is there anybody out there who may have a solution for this problem?

Check 'disable BOINC network access' under the file menu when you do not want BOINC to connect. When you want BOINC to communicate uncheck that.

You should also go to the Einstein@Home main webpage, log into "your account", and then edit your general preferences to "confirm before connecting to internet". As a dialup user myself, this along with JKecks suggestion has worked great for me.
Good luck, and happy crunching!

The confirm before connection was not working before 4.2x. I have not checked the status of this bug yet in 4.2x so I don't know how it is working.
