I have five macs at home that sit around during the day, doing nothing. Hypothetical question: Would it be better to work on one problem and use distributed processing, or have each computer work on one problem?

The question is hypothetical because I'm not even sure distributed processing is available...

The macs are on a gigabyte ethernet backbone..

BOINC *is* a form of distributed processing. But you probably mean something like PVM or MPI.
