and Apple has given up on nvidia support and don’t support nvidia cards in the most recent versions of MacOS.

The devs most likely didn’t

The devs most likely didn’t have the free time to finish development. CUDA is definitely faster. 
 

but as far as MacOS goes, CUDA is no longer an option anyway, Apple dropped support for nvidia. It’s out of their hands.

I run my 2 Nvidia 1070s on

I run my 2 Nvidia 1070s on High Sierra with purge-wrangler script to enable TB2

and it works great.
