I first thought that this isn't an option because all CUDA cards were PCIx ... until somebody showed me CUDA cards for AGP slots. Yes, they exist!

Yep. ATI is still selling them alhough NV stopped a few generations ago. Based on some PCIe bottlenecking tests Tom's hardware did he 3850/4670 cards are probably about as fast as you can go before performance begins to suffer in a few titles. MS FlightSim X was particularly brutal on bandwidth.
Dunno if they'll do the same with an upcoming 54xx card, or if sales have finally dwindled to the point of not being worth bothering.
