I haven't been running BOINC projects for very long but I noticed that after upgrading my OS, from OS X 10.9.5 to 10.10.3, that my WUs are not checkpointing at all. Their runtime seems to have drastically increased as well. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Moldr,

Welcome to Einstein. We hope you enjoy your time here!

What are you seeing that causes you to think that? I don't know of any checkpointing problem with BRP4G.

I had a look at your BRP4G tasks list. Of the ones you completed, all have very close to 13ksecs run times. I guess you are referring to the most recent one which you aborted with a large run time component. It also had a very large CPU component which leads me to suspect a problem with OpenCL under the new OS. It sort of looks like the task is being run on the CPU rather than the GPU. I think you may need to find an updated driver/OpenCL libs to handle your GPU under Yosemite. You may be able to get more information from Apple about that or perhaps someone using a similar GPU (HD6770M) might see your message and respond.

Cheers,
Gary.

Thanks for the reply! I've decided to run strictly CPU tasks for now. My cursory search of the forums didn't turn up anything that closely pertained to my issue and Apple is notoriously slow in terms of updating drivers. I don't really have the spare time to invest in researching a solution, if one exists. Thanks again.

When I checked the tasks while running, using the properties command, the CPU time at last checkpoint field was blank throughout the entire run. Additionally, if I exited BOINC manager and restarted, the task would start from scratch. Those two things led me to believe that no checkpointing was occurring.

It currently looks like the BRP4G-opencl-ati-lion on Yosemite gets stuck somewhere and doesn't do any actual computation at all, thus doesn't checkpoint either. This is under investigation. For now we stopped delivering OpenCL tasks to OSX 10.10.3 systems.
