Excuse me as a beginner, I do

Excuse me as a beginner, I do not know English well ...
but said the discussion came to nothing came. It seemed to me that many spoke positively about the idea of badges. However, a clear answer from the managers of the project was not followed.
Thought about the infringement of someone's rights - is far-fetched.
The idea of equal inflow and outflow of volunteers incomprehensible for me... - Denis Puer (MD), explained that the principle of competitive peculiar people and therefore increases motivation.
I do not insist on my opinion, but I would like to understand why not use this kind of motivation, it is worth nothing.

Bernd Machenschalk, Forum moderator, Project administrator, Project developer, wrote in that thread:

I'm not sure that a system of badges, especially when just expressing another value that already exists (credit), would help us to gain or keep more contributors. Word Community Grid reportedly had a bit of success with badges for things that express other things than credit (successfully attached to the project, completed first task, first forum post, possibly first discovery) etc.

Added to that, the badges are a part of the BOINC back-end software and not all of that can be installed on any project servers without other things that were working perfectly before, breaking in the process. So project administrators hesitate to install the newer BOINC back-end software, and mostly only update parts of it when things are clearly broken.

Adding further to that, Einstein is busy developing a whole new forum in Drupal, which doesn't use the standard BOINC forums and thus also not their badges. So adding a newer BOINC back-end, to then fix what's broken, to then 'soon' after that adding yet newer software that may not even support badges, is just a waste of time and money.

I LIKE the idea of 'progress' badges that express things other then credits, hopefully Bernd and others can find a way to do that here too.

Ok it has been awhile and maybe with the passing of time badges can be reevaluated.  Not to say just because many of the, other well run, projects have them although at least 27 projects do.

Badges for recognition of levels of work completed can be a form of positive feedback for volunteers who do not work for coins.

Thanks

I like the badges idea. It certainly propels me to send that little bit longer on a project to reach that next badge.

I think it's a shame that E@H doesn't have them.
