What is it and what does it mean or where can I find the info in the BOINC Wiki?

One of my WU's shows Average CPU efficiency 0.61656. Is that good, bad or just OK?

Average CPU efficiency ???

Here is what I found in the WIKI doing a "google" search for Average CPU efficiency...

Quote:

Average CPU Efficiency
New for v4.70 and later.

The fraction of CPU Time compared to real time a Science Application runs, used for calculating how much work to give out.

If for example it takes 2 wall-hours to get 1 hour of CPU Time (as displayed in BOINC Manager), this will be close to 0.5.

On computers only used for web-surfing, checking emails, and the occasional file-download and listening to music, it should be close to 1.

If for example you only run the BOINC Client Software at the same time you run CPU-demanding games, it can be close to 0.

Doesn't sound very good. I have 11 hosts running and the lowest is .9172. The average is: .9864 according to boincview.

Like the WIKI says, it depends on what else is running. 0.61656 is actually OK if the screensaver is running, the graphics takes up a lot of the CPU.

You can use Process Explorer from the System Internals web site to see what each process is using. CPU usage is the % of the CPU used in the last interval, you can also add "CPU Time" - right-click the column header and click "Select columns", its in "Process Performance". Click on a column header to sort by that column, click again to reverse the sort. "Process" has an extra sort - a tree structure showing the processes started by other processes.

Process Explorer will also show what each thread is using, you can use it to see how much of the CPU went to the graphics. Double-click the einstin_0.18.... process to get the "Properties" dialog. Switch to the "threads" tab, then click the "starting address" header. Let it sit for a couple of seconds until it picks up the CPU usage.

The middle thread is for graphics, click it and the CPU usage so far will show at the bottom left. Calculate "elapsed" time by subtracting the start time from the current time. Calculate CPU time by adding kernal time and user time. Divide the CPU time into the elapsed time to get the %CPU used by the graphics thread.

Though I am not done yet, you

Though I am not done yet, you can also look up some things by the web page that they appear on ...

So, you could have looked under computer summary page and it lists all the fields we know and love, and what they mean ... along with the other supplied references ...

I had hoped by now to be done with all the pages ... alas ... spirit is willing but the the flesh has a taste for carpet ...

I have been falling down again ... :(

OK, mine must be low because I wanted to see if E@H would run with the graphics. That was why I wanted to test it. It completed 1 WU with the graphics/screensaver working with no problem. However, I think i'll leave it off to allow the laptop to get more done. Beside P@H done have graphics that I know of.

Update, after the testing I turned off the graphics and now my CPU efficiency jumped to 0.876155.

And since it does not move instantly in either direction, it will move more in the positive direction for a while (assuming no change to the CPU usage).
