all of my utilities are under

all of my utilities are under ground because of the high wind conditions that we can face here.  the idea of an antenna service is not appealing to me because it might not withstand high winds.  also to attach an antenna to the roof would be asking for trouble during extremely bad weather, i.e., hurricanes for example.  I feel certain that companies providing service would also recognize this limitation and provide an alternative solution to an antenna system.

My neighbor switched to Dish network last Fall and they put it on a stick near the house, the tech said if they install it on the house you the homeowner are  responsible for it or any damages but on a stick, he pounded it a good 4 feet into the ground, Dish will replace it if needed. It's kinda behind a bush so you can't see it from the street but it still has a great view of the sky, he loves the picture which is an every channel 4k!!

Just read this.  I do have

  1. Just read this.  I do have U-verse and was unware it was going away.  I did have a long chat with the AT&T service people.  We have fiber in our suburb.  The fiber goes to the hub on each street and from the hub is four pairs of twisted lines (copper) of which only one pair was used.  He suggested paying a littler more for the ability to use another pair of lines which would have provided better noise ratio in addition to bandwidth.  There is a roof dish from Dish Network left over from previous occupant.  It is HD but I suspect it is not compatible with Direct tv. At one time AT&T handled Dish Network, maybe 2010.  I don't think they know what they are doing especially when they bought that turner network.

I assume I can switch to streaming service and not use any cable or dish, just basic internet.  We enjoy watching soccer but only major games show up such as world cup and Olympics.  Maybe have to use Dish to get those.

This is called bonded pair.  But ATT does not want to do that anymore.  There are a few isolated areas in the country where the infrastructure is still able to handle that.

But you need to call ATT and ask if they can add another pair in bonded configuration to your account.  I give that 20% chance of success.

Basically ATT and all the other national carriers don't want anything to do with copper anymore including maintaining the existing plant.

Just read the wiki on

Just read the wiki on Starlink.  I wonder how this will affect the ability of intelligent life to detect our presence in the galaxy.  I would assume the more noise that is sent out the more likely we can be found.  I assume that the SETI study might look for comparable signals.

I read somewhere (sorry,

I read somewhere (sorry, can't remember where) that streaming providers offering free 30-day subscription do so only when you sign up and use the discount code FREE30.  Not sure whether HBO is one of those. Not sure whether it works for current subscribers.  Hmmmm, perhaps this wasn't a useful post after all.....

Ideas are not fixed, nor should they be; we live in model-dependent reality.

Allow me to add a  useful reminder:  Don't forget to cancel your FREE 30 day subscription.  I love how they cloak their generosity in increased revenue for their benefit.

Showtime has a free trial period thru my cable company thru the 20th of this month so try that too, no sign up needed it  just shows up and works or it  doesn't.

HBO is offering free streaming of 500 hours of their programs thru their app right now, is that what you mean?
