Why doesn't it show the correct internal IP address 192.168.1.7 as my router and the device itself show it has?

Ah, figured this one out myself. For some unknown reason it shows the domain as localhost. And localhost its IP address is 127.0.0.1

Question about

Question about storage...

On my phone (Samsung Galaxy Victory) I have the "internal" storage (2G) and an additional "external" MicroSD card (16G). Where will BOINC data be stored, and is there a way to choose?

Thanks.

So far all I am getting on my ASUS TF101 Android 4.03, is "nothing to do - waiting for tasks"
It also shows the device as "LocalHost" The device has 16GB of internal ram plus a docking station attached that gives it another 40GB of ram. I changed it so the program should run on as low as 40% battery. Still nothing.

I guess that leaves the issue of : is it connected to a WiFi ?

Cheers, Mike.

Yes, it's connected to a wifi

Yes, it's connected to a wifi 24/7. Also it is connected to the charger and both the internal battery and the battery in the attached keyboard are at 100%.
Not sure where to go from here. It connected to the project ok. I am not running any other Boinc projects on the Android tablet.

My ASUS TF101 is running the project now. In the preferences I deselected the "connect with wifi only" option and it connected, downloaded and is running.
My tablet only works on wifi, it has no other option for connecting.
Doesn't make since but it works witch is all that counts.

Now then, questions though:
In the same log it shows:
no app version available: APP#23 (einsteinbinary_BRP5) PLATFORM#12 (arm-android-linux-gnu) min_version 0
What does that mean then?

Currently we offer an Android-ARM app only for BRP4 (unbundled), which is the smallest logical unit of work (in terms of run time) which we have atm. E.g. BRP5 uses smaller FFT length (which would be good for Android!), but far more templates than BRP4 (bad, as runtime scales also linearly with nr of templates).

The code in BOINC that queries the name of the host always returns "localhost" on Android, which, besides the IP address implications, is also confusing because if you have more than one Android phone/tablet attached to a BOINC project, it's difficult to tell them apart in your host list in the web interface :-(. The BOINC team is working on this, e.g. an idea is to have the phone/tablet model name etc displayed as a host name.

If only it could use the 32GB memory card. ;-)

Indeed, the ability to use an SD card for storage of data files is high on my wish list of new features :-).

Not yet. This version of BOINC on Android can not use space on an SD card.

My understanding is that Android has some restrictions on what an application can put on an SD card, especially if you want to put executable files there. There seem to be ways to get around some of those limitations, e.g. NativeBOINC uses kind of a "hack" (in the words of the author of Native BOINC) to run BOINC almost entirely off an SD card, but I'm not sure I'm entirely comfortable with this solution. But the BOINC team is looking into this.

Weird. Thanks for reporting this!

Is this a fluke or reproducible? E.g. if you now select "connect on wifi only" again and try to to a project update (tab on the project in the projects tab and then select "update"), will the update fail?
(A convenient way to check if the update request went thru is looking at the "last contact" column here: http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/hosts_user.php, with time being in GMT.)
