AMD RX480 without a monitor

I recently purchased a pair of MSI RX480s and am having problems running a custom fan profile. I am using MSI Afterbunder and everything works great when i have a monitor plugged into one of the GPUs. However, when I use the integrated graphics on the motherboard or leave the monitor unconnected, Afterburner is unable to see the GPUs. All of my previous BOINC experience is using Nvidia GPUs and PrecisionX, which does not require an attached monitor. I have searched the forums and it looks like this can be solved by using a dummy plug to trick the GPU into thinking a monitor is attached. I don't mind purchasing additional hardware if that is the only way, but would prefer a software solution if one exists. Any suggestions?

I only have one monitor on my desktop with iGPU plus a 1070 and 970. Even with 1 physical monitor the desktop is spread out across 3 'screens'. I do not have any dummy plugs and the monitor is plugged into my iGPU.

Nvidia is not AMD. As a general rule, I think you will find that AMD cards require a dummy plug, though the drivers may have changed since I last used one. It may be different for Windows and Linux too, but I always needed a dummy plug under Windows when I ran two AMD cards (HD 7770s, HD 7790s and HD 7870s).

If you really want to do this, search for "ati dummy plug" on google. I don't know if this works, but if your monitor has two inputs you can try connecting the card to the unused input of the monitor. I have noticed that just simple monitor activity doesn't degrade compute performance much.

Thanks for all the replies. For now, keeping a monitor attached to one of the GPUs has solved the problem. HDMI dummy plugs don't cost that much, so I will probably end up buying one.
