Hallo !
Since about the 8th Feb. the „daily client error rate“ for ABPS files has increased to about 2 - 3% now. One of the hosts producing this, is my new small notebook, but only since the 9th March. The few days before, they became well crunched. I believe, that about at that time I changed the setup for the graphics card NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 310M (driver version unknown, CUDA version 2020, compute capability 1.2, 512MB, 49 GFLOPS peak) for using the PhysX-capabilities. Before that I crunched some APBS files successively. I think, from that time on I get the following dialog:

21.03.2010 09:34:58 Einstein@Home Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
21.03.2010 09:34:58 Einstein@Home Requesting new tasks for GPU
21.03.2010 09:35:03 Einstein@Home Scheduler request completed: got 0 new tasks
21.03.2010 09:35:03 Einstein@Home Message from server: No work sent
21.03.2010 09:35:03 Einstein@Home Message from server: CUDA version 2.3 capability needed

This can happen repeatedly. But there is no new driver available and CUDA driver 2.6 does n´t suite. When no new work is in stock here and it becomes urgent to get some, at least then :

07.04.2010 11:51:05 Einstein@Home Sending scheduler request: To fetch work.
07.04.2010 11:51:05 Einstein@Home Reporting 5 completed tasks, requesting new work for CPU
07.04.2010 11:51:15 Einstein@Home Scheduler request completed: got 3 new tasks

Even if it´s asked for CPU work and it´s downloaded ABPS file/s, then:

07.04.2010 02:28:49 Einstein@Home Starting p2030_54779_70202_0001_G32.77+00.51.S_3.dm_588_1

07.04.2010 02:28:55 Einstein@Home Computation for task p2030_54779_70202_0001_G32.77+00.51.S_3.dm_588_1 finished

07.04.2010 02:28:55 Einstein@Home Starting h1_0389.20_S5R4__106_S5GCEa_1

( Off course there are always 4 lines, one for each subfile, which I deleted to save space, as they don´t give more information.)

This behavior in not only a blemish. It produces unnecessary extra work for the servers, traffic in the net and blow up the disk spaces. Within the 7 weeks since establishing the notebook at E@H, the BOINC directory has increased to 1.05GB. - By the way, since the advent of the S5GCE files at the 17th Mar, at my other oldish computer the diskspace increases at a mean rate of about 10MB per day. So the old, no longer needed S5GCE files are incomplete deleted. This will give problems not only at me if it stays such. -
It seems to me, that this behavior bases on a relative simple programming failure, as the outputfile/s doesn´t become established. Or what can I do??? Switching off the PhysX capabilities, rebooting etc. didn´t help at all and in the account I din´t find a suitable switch.

I will be pleased to get your comments.

ABPS process creation failed

Hallo !
Just an extention to the foregoing.
To see, how "engraving" this problem is, I looked through my "Tasks for user" panel and checked, that 108 from 210 files at all ended up with this and only this client error. About every seconde file. I think, one should not deminish this failure.

I will be pleased to get your comments. Kind regards
Martin

See if CreateProcess() failed

See if CreateProcess() failed - Access is denied. (0x5) helps you out.

As for the CUDA message, you run with a CUDA2.2 (185.xx) driver, the new ABP2 requires minimum CUDA2.3 (190.38) drivers. That's what the message is about. Nvidia has the 197.16 WHQL drivers available, also for your 310M. These will add CUDA 3.0 capability. (mind, not that your GPU's computing capability will do it, but that aside).

Take a look at this reply that I wrote earlier today. Another participant had also noticed that the S5R7 files weren't being deleted when they were finished with. It is a bug and the Devs are working on a solution.

Cheers,
Gary.

Hallo Yord !
Many thanks for the realy valuable hints.
After installation of this driver recommended by you, the problem with the downloaded unsuitable ABPS files disapeared and about 1/3 of the files became well crunched. The other 2/3 ended up with the same failure, and mostly near end of fully crunching them. Before I searched on the NVIDIA homepage under the GPU name for the driver and downloaded that, but it didn´t made it better.

Since the installation of the secure zone every runs smooth. I had also the idea for this, but discarded it, because only the ABPS file where concerned. It took a while to get the information from the manufacturer, how to establish the secure zone.

So again, many thanks

Martin

Hallo Gary !
Man thanks for your answer.
Within the few days until establishing the secure zone, the BOINC directory swallowed up by 130MB. Since installation it remains constant or reduced form 1.18 to 1.17GB. That mean to me, that the directory in now crowded mainly by realy unnecessary old files. I hope they become killed some time by the programm, as I have difficulties to differ, what can be discarded and what has to remain. Or can you tell me this please?

Many thanks
Marin
